43. AI och Gud

English translatorn: AI and God

AI and God

P(doom) is an abbreviation used in the artificial intelligence safety research community to describe the estimated probability that advanced AI will lead to the extinction of humanity or some other irreversible existential catastrophe.

Some believe that the AI race between the U.S. and China could spiral out of control due to politicians’ ambitions for power and researchers’ hubris. There is talk of irresponsible development. What is missing is a functional global ethic. The problem is ancient and traces back to the tree of knowledge of good and evil that stood in the Garden of Eden.

AI seems capable of generating more knowledge than humanity has ever experienced before. But AI cannot judge what is good and evil. AI has no conscience or sense of justice of its own.

According to the biblical account, humanity chose to develop on its own, to determine for itself what was good and evil without the wisdom of God, the Creator. Now it is time to consult Him for guidance. God is the only one who can objectively determine what is good and evil. We need His help and guidance, both on a personal level and in global matters.

I asked AI if the Bible would be a good guide for AI ethics and received the following response:

“The Bible can serve as a source of inspiration for AI ethics, but it cannot be used as a direct or complete manual… it lacks answers to modern, specific dilemmas such as machine learning and algorithmic bias.”

AI seems to be quite positive about the Bible. Let AI handle the technology and God handle the ethics.
